Philips HQ7390 Williams F1 Mains Rechargeable Electric Shaver Review
Review by Pete Morris
We’ve been extremely impressed with the closeness and gentleness of Philips shavers such as the Philips HQ6990, and today we’re taking a look at the Philips HQ7390 Williams F1 Electric Shaver; one of the best-selling shavers around. Philips have built the HQ7390 using the carbon fibre used in F1 racing cars, making it a lightweight, strong, and durable. With it’s sleek looks that take after the Williams F1 car this shaver certainly looks the part, but can it rival the excellent Philips SensoTouch touch range? Let’s take a look.
As is usually the case with Philips shavers, the Philips HQ7390 sports a variety of features under the hood.
The Philips HQ7390 includes the same quick charging technology as Philips other top of the line shavers. I takes just 1 hour to charge the battery to capacity, and a full charge gives around 30 minutes of shaving time. We’ve found quick charging to be a much appreciated feature in the past, and we’ll take a look at what the customers say about charing the HQ7390 later.
The Philips HQ7390 is also fully waterproof, which means it is very quick and simple to clean. It can simply be run under the tap to remove and hairs or stubble after shaving.
Also included in the Philips HQ7390, is Philips’ patented Reflex Action System. This means that the three shaver heads are suspension mounted, so that they adjust to and follow the natural curvature and contours of the face and neck. Since the heads adjusts as you move the shaver around your face, this causes less friction against the skin. Ultimately, less friction means less skin irritation after shaving. To aid with this, the shaving heads of the Philips HQ7390 are also design for smooth and gently contact with the skin, minimising friction and irritation.
Philips’ dual-blade Super Lift and Cut technology is also included the Phlips HQ7390. This means that there are two blades in each of the shaver heads. The first blade lifts hair gently from the skin, and the second blade cuts it. This results in as close and gentle a shave as possible.
The shaver also incorporates a flip-up moustache and sideburns trimmer.
We found that most electric shavers were cheapest from Amazon.co.uk, including the Philips HX7390 which is currently available for 56% off at the time of writing.

Philips HQ7390 Customer Reviews and Feedback
The Philips HQ7390 one of the best selling electric shavers on the market, and as such, there are literally hundreds and hundreds of customer view, opinions, and feedback. This is a very well regarded shaver, and of all those hundreds of reviews over 92% of them are from happy customers. That’s a pretty impressive record, so latest take a more in depth look at what people have been saying about the HQ7390.
There are three things that came up time and time again from pleased users of the Philips HQ7390.
First, people were generally very happy with the shaving results of the Philips HQ7390. Almost all positive reviews mentioned that the shave was very close for an electric shaver, and whilst it isn’t quite at the closeness of an old fashioned wet shave just yet, a lot of mentioned that it was the closest shave they’d had using an electric shaver.
Mr Gary Walker:
“This is the first time I have tried using an electric shaver and I am hugely impressed. The build quality is excellent. It’s quiet and the shave itself is excellent.” Click here to read full review
As we expected, people were also very pleased with the battery life of the Philips HQ7390. As previously mentioned, you can charge the shaver fully in around 1 hour, which means that you don’t need to wait long if you mistakenly forget to charge it (or if it accidentally turns on in a bag or suitcase while you’re traveling). People mentioned that they could get around 10 shaves out of 1 full charge of the battery.
Another, and unexpected, point about the shaver that a lot of the reviews mentioned was it’s quietness. A lot of people mentioned that the Philips HQ7390 is very quiet for an electric shaver. Whilst this may not impact the quality of the shave, in these days of portable electronics, a lot of people seem to like to listen to radios, mp3 players or even watch videos on their laptop whilst shaving. People found that the HQ7390 was more than quiet enough to accommodate most scenarios.
Quite a lot of people were impressed with how lightweight the Philips HQ7390 felt. A few people felt that this meant that it didn’t feel sturdy, but I have to disagree on this point. This shaver has been constructed from carbon fibre, which is known to be both very lightweight and very robust. This is why it is a very popular material which is commonly used in military equipment, and F1 racing cars. If it’s good enough for the army, then carbon fibre is more than strong enough for a domestic shaver!
Mr C W Batchelor:
“Although i don’t get as quite as close a shave as with a razor i am very impressed with the results. I don’t find it to be extremely noisy and i can have quite a number of shaves before recharging the battery. In conclusion i would definitely recommend this shaver.” Click here to read full review
There were not very many negative comments. One of the things that was quite often mentioned, though, was the lack of a travel bag. Although the shaver itself is feature-packed, Philips have neglected to include a travel bag in the box, and a lot of people who use their electric shaver for traveling felt this was an oversight. However, a quick search on Amazon.co.uk shows that a soft carrying pouch can be purchased for around £3, so if you do want a carry bag then it’s not going to break the bank.
Another point worth noting, is that a few people who moved from manual shaving to the Philips HQ7390 felt that their skin needed around a week to acclimatise to the new saver. You can ease the process greatly by using the correct technique, which is move across your face in gentle, small circles. However, a lot of people mentioned that their skin was indeed less irritated once it had gotten used to the new shaver. Those people who are already using electric shavers should not experience any problems.
Overall, Philips have come up with a good all round package here. The Philips H!7390 gives a close shave, charges very quickly and operates very quietly. To boot, its looks are sleek and cool, and it’s nice and cheap at 56% off! This is a good quality, and good value package for sure – 3 stars.
