Philips RQ1250 SensoTouch 3D Shaver Review
Review by Pete Morris
We’ve looked at previous iterations in the SensoTouch 3D series previous, and have been suitably impressed (the Philips RQ1280 got a rave review from us). Today, we’re looking at the Philips RQ1250 SensoTouch 3D Rotary Electric Shaver, which is a slightly different version to the one we looked at before. The reason this one caught our eyes is that it is a great deal cheaper than the other models. Couple that with the current discount of 36% and the price of owning a Sensotouch 3D is much reduced.
The vast majority of the features in the Philips RQ1250 are the same as the more expensive RQ1280 model. We’ll briefly recap these features here.
Of course, Philips SensoTouch 3D technology is built into the Philips RQ1250. The three shaver heads are suspension mounted for flexibility and the whole head can actually pivot around sperically 360 degrees. This means that the shaver can adapt the shape and contours of your face and neck, making for smoother contact and less friction in those hard-to-shave areas. Ultimately, less friction means less skin irritation.
To further reduce friction and irritation the Philips RQ1250 also includes SkinGlide shaving heads. The surface of the shaving heads is smooth and glides across the skin easily and gently.
Like other Sensotouch 3D models, the RQ1250 shaver also includes Ultratrack technology. Each shaving head has 3 different tracks (those are the holes that are used to catch the hair). Each track catches a different type of hair, so as not to leave any stragglers behind. There are channels which capture long and flat lying hairs, round holes which take care of the short stubble, and slots which are best at catching the normal hair. Philips say that this special design means you’ll only need to go over each section of your face once, minimising the chances of suffering irritation.
As with all Philips shavers, you’ve also got their dual-bladed Super Lift and Cut technology included in the RQ1250. One blade gently lifts each hair, pulling it slightly away from the skin. The second blade cuts, and this means the hair is being cut below the skin line so you’re getting a much closer shave than with other shavers.
The Philips RQ1250 is also fully waterproof. This means it is easily cleaned by running it under a hot tap, and also allows you to have a wet shave using a foam or gel. Of course, this isn’t necessary; the RQ1250 shaves dry just as well if that is what you prefer.
We found that most electric shavers are were cheapest from Amazon.co.uk, including the Philips RQ1250 SensoTouch 3D which is currently available for 3% off here.
Philips RQ1250 vs Philips RQ1280
There are several different models available in the SensoTouch 3D range, and people often get a little confused about what the differences are. So what’s different about this model?
To all intents and purposes, the Philips RQ1250 Sensotouch 3D is almost exactly same as the more expensive Sensotouch 3D models. You’ll get all the same great technology included where it counts; in the shave. In fact, aside from that the Philips RQ1250 is a different colour, there is only one very small difference.
The difference lies in the battery indicator. Whilst in the more expensive models the LED indicator on the handset tells you how many minutes worth of battery life you have left, the RQ1250 shaver has indicator bars instead. Essentially, this is a tiny difference and ofcourse will make no difference in the quality of the shave.
The major difference, though, is in the pricing. At over £100 cheaper than other Sensotouch 3D models, we think the Philips RQ1250 is something of a bargain.

Philips RQ1250 SensoTouch 3D Customer Reviews and Feedback
Having taken in the comments, reviews, opinion and ratings of the Philips RQ1250 from customers, we can report that the vast majority are very satisfied. Around 90% of customers rated the shaver very highly, with 4 or 5 stars. Let’s take a look at what they thought.
Almost all of the reviews that we checked mentioned that the closeness of the shave with the Philips RQ1250 Sensotouch 3D is exceptional. In fact, a noticeable amount of customers felt that this shaver provided them with the closest shave that they’d ever experienced from an electric shaver. While it might not be quite as close as a wet shave with a razorblade (no electric shaver is) it seems that this is as close as you can possible get with current electric shaver technology.

The build quality of the Philips RQ1250 was also often cited as being very good. Many customers said that they felt the RQ1250 felt very sturdy, but at the same time was quite light and easy to hold. The battery was also a positive point noted by a lot of people, lasting over a week on a single charge and daily use.
Generally, customers reported that the shaver performed very well whether used for a dry or a wet shave. Additionally, quite a few customers mentioned that, while they have experienced skin irritation and soreness with other electric shavers, the RQ1250 was very kind and gentle on the skin. One happy customer said that his skin irritation had stopped completely.

There were very few people that had anything negative to say about this shaver. The main negative point that we noticed, was that people felt it was quite expensive. However, it seems these opinions were posted before the price came down dramatically. The Philips RQ1250 is currently available for 36% off which makes it quite a lot more affordable. However, it is still more expensive than the Panasonic Premium ES-RF41, the foil shaver equivalent.
As we’d already seen good things with the SensoTouch 3D series, we expected the Philips RQ1250 to live up to expectations and it didn’t disappoint. The Sensotouch 3D range offers probably the closest shave you can expect from an electric shaver, is gentle on sensitive skin, and is sturdy and well made with fantastic battery life. It easily matches up to it’s sibling the RQ1280, and we’ve given it same excellent score since it’s almost identical. This is definitely one of the best shavers available at the moment – 5 stars.
